Since the production of Titanic, Linux has been proved to be able to do big computer graphic rendering works. Now a new movie that has its imaginary CG effects produced on Linux desktops, The Spiderwick Chronicles, is open to release on Februray 15th, 2008.

One of the visual effects facilities that created visual effects for this movie, Tippett Studio, had 119 of their Intel-based MacOS X desktops switched to Linux. That sounds good for Linux fans:-). These workstations originally designed to run Mac OS Xs, nevertheless, ultimately they cooperated with Linux, supporting a dozen of CG software on Linux platforms, almost perfectly.
Tippett Studio not only uses commercial graph processing tools such as Maya for Linux, but also employes a lot of open source utilities in their work. They even have a team of 8 Linux programmers to maintain and develop tools for use, as well as contributing to a few Open Source projects, such as Pixie.
